Rob McNeely was a guest speaker for a national webinar on Friday, February 7, 2025, titled, “Ain’t Nothin’ Like the Real Thing: How AI is Reshaping the Music Industry.”
The presentation was organized and hosted by The Florida State University College of Law Office Institute of Law, Technology and Innovation as part of its ongoing series, “Frontiers in Law and Technology.” Rob joined Professor Jake Linford, Intellectual Property professor at the FSU College of Law, for the hour-long presentation. Rob, a 20-year Adjunct Professor of Entertainment Law at the FSU College of Law, focused his discussion on the historical impact of disruptive technologies in the music industry and on the challenges facing the industry from widespread use of Artificial Intelligence in creating music.
“Most industry disruptions (compact discs, mp3, streaming) have been in the reproduction and distribution of music, essentially, getting music to market,” Rob told the audience of several hundred participants. “AI is different, because AI is a technological disruption not so much in getting music to market, but in the creation of music itself. And that’s a big deal.”
As part of his intellectual property litigation practice, Rob has appeared in state and federal courts in multiple states, including Florida, California, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Virginia, and Nevada. He has also assisted clients big and small in registering and defending important trademarks and copyrights.
